The first sessions are devoted to understanding the camera and the
fundamental principles of imaging: exposure, ISO triangle/speed/aperture, focus,
depth of field. Practical exercises will illustrate each notion to enable
students to take control of their photographic tools independently and thoughtfully.
Participants will learn to read an image, think about framing, play with lines,
planes, lights and contrasts. The classic rules of composition will be explored
and adapted through creative workshops.
This module takes you on a journey through the major photographic practices: reportage,
street photography, portraiture, conceptual photography, staging, abstraction… The emphasis
is on experimentation and the diversity of photographic styles, to encourage each and every one of us to break away from automatisms and explore our own sensibility.
The final part is devoted to editing the work produced: selection, organization, retouching,
construction of a coherent series. Personalized support is provided to help you identify a
thread, formulate an intention, and prepare a public presentation. The
cycle concludes with a group exhibition, where each participant presents a series accompanied by a short text.
A digital camera (SLR, hybrid or expert compact) is ideal. A
film camera is also welcome. Alternatively, a smartphone can be used to
follow the exercises.
