Maria Gioia Gowar

Maria, from London, studied languages and translation (French, Spanish and Portuguese) at the University of Nottingham in the UK. After graduating in 2013, she completed a TEFL course for teaching English as a foreign language and then spent one year translating and teaching English in Brazil before returning to the UK.

She moved to Brussels in 2015 for a translation internship at the European Commission, following which she worked as a support agent on an EC IT helpdesk for two and a half years. During this time she studied and prepared for the transition she made in 2019 to work in what she really enjoyed.

Maria is passionate about teaching, languages, sports and art. She currently teaches English and translates into English, while also working at a gym as a fitness coach and group class instructor. In her free time she draws, paints and dances.

Maria believes that education is one of the most important things in life, and the more we can learn the better we can be as people. She has personal experience of the benefits learning foreign languages can have and wishes to share this knowledge and passion with other people, in particular children whose education and communication in general is positively impacted by language acquisition.

I love to open up my students’ minds and imagination to the wonderful possibilities of communicating, thinking and seeing the world through a different language, allowing them to access the rich diversity of humanity.
