1st semester

The objective of the first semester is to teach children the fundamentals of basketball: rules, techniques and strategies.

Children first learn the rules of discipline (no contact, walking, double dribbling, etc.) and the main techniques and strategies (passing, dribbling, throwing, etc.), through running, ball and team games. Children are encouraged to have fun while developing at their own pace. They improve their motor skills and general abilities: taming their body, balance situations, support, learning to run and jump, taming the ball, learning how to throw and catch it. Through learning basketball, children also acquire moral values, respect for rules, an ability to manage their emotions and to integrate into a group.

2nd semester

The objective for the second half of the year is to improve technical gestures and cooperation within the team.

Each session will be structured to maximize each child’s motor engagement time through adapted exercises. Children will strengthen their motor skills while improving their techniques such as dodging or changing pace. Greater constraints are added to the game in order to stimulate creativity when individual or collective solutions have to be found. Cooperation between players is essential, so the coach seeks to strengthen communication between teammates or with opponents and to develop collective strategies and actions. At the end of the year, matches and tournaments are organised to apply techniques and strategies and to monitor progress.
