centredinternationalwomensdayOn 8th March, countries around the world celebrate International Women’s Day. International Women’s Day, which has been observed since in the early 1900’s, is an opportunity for 1000s of organisations to support the achievements of women and promote gender equality. This year’s global theme is Make It Happen. The European Parliament has chosen the theme of education and is focusing on how this can play a role in promoting gender equality. According to the EP resolution on gender stereotypes in the EU, gender stereotypes in schools influence the perception of children from an  early age and stereotypical assumptions about women in the labour market contribute to gender divisions within occupations as well as to women being paid less than men. A useful reminder that building an equal future means building a school community where equality is promoted.
