Verginiya Popova

Verginiya Popova is a Bulgarian born singer, singing teacher, composer and actress.

She graduated in singing: pop and jazz from the New Bulgarian University but also as an actress at the Probuda Theatre School in Sofia.

Since her arrival in Belgium in 2004, she has worked as a singer and composer and has continued her studies at the Brussels-City and St. Josse Academies of Arts: to perfect her skills in opera singing and composition, as well as in analysis and writing.

Verginiya has performed in various places in Brussels: cabarets with songs, café-theatres, cultural centres, for example: Belga Queen Bxl, Midi Station, Jazzin’, Boston, La touche d’Ivoire, also for Zinneke Parade. She also participated in several festivals, presenting her compositions: Jazz Marathon, Jazz Jette June, Jazz Station etc., and she appeared on a TV show: Brussels International.

Verginiya became a singing teacher following numerous requests after her concerts in 2007. She developed her own method of working, based on the idea that the human body is a singing instrument. She draws on her experience, academic knowledge, meditation and yoga.

In her singing classes, her students work on breathing, the sensations involved in producing vibrations and the parts of the body responsible for producing sound: the diaphragm, the mask, the mouth, the ear, etc,

She sings and teaches different styles: jazz, pop, rock, funk, classical, bossa nova, French songs, variety, musical comedy, Italian canzone.
