The Parents Association of the European School of Laeken (APEEE BRU4) is looking for a COMMUNICATION OFFICER
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE OF THE COMMUNICATION OFFICER
The Communication Officer will be responsible for ensuring clear and consistent communication between the APEEE, parents, the school management, and external stakeholders, while also supporting the association’s digital infrastructure. The role combines strategic communication tasks with hands-on ICT support, including website maintenance and digital tools administration.
We are looking for a highly motivated colleague with a strong team spirit, service-oriented mindset and an inter-cultural and multistakeholder competence. The ideal candidate enjoys supporting others, works proactively, and is self-motivated, contributing positively to a collaborative and dynamic environment.
The Communication Officer will be responsible for managing and enhancing the internal and external communication, based on APEEE needs and the communication tools used.
The Communication Officer will work under the supervision and the responsibility of the Director of the APEEE, which will convey the needs and strategic guidelines of the APEEE Board the Executive Committee.
He/she will be part of the General Affairs department, a cross-functional department that supports the technical services offered by the association to the school community: canteen, transport and extracurricular activities.

Who we are
The aims of the Parents Association of the European School of Laeken (APEEE BRU4)are as follows: a) to represent the educational and family interests of parents in dealings with the School and with the competent local, regional, national and European authorities; b) to take and promote any initiative to enable the widest possible participation by parents in the life of the School in all its forms and in decisions relating thereto; c) organising and managing school transport, school meals, extra-curricular activities and any other services for children and parents as required; d) informing the school authorities of parents’ wishes and suggestions regarding school organisation; e) to inform parents of decisions or discussions concerning the school coming from the competent local, regional, national and European authorities; f) to provide guidance and support to parents, on request, in relation to school and pedagogical services, including, where appropriate, legal and administrative procedures; g) to promote links and, where appropriate, establish direct collaboration with the Parents’ Associations of other European Schools, in particular those based in the Brussels-Capital Region.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Key Responsibilities
Communication & Content Management
- Develop, propose and implement the APEEE’s internal and external communication strategy and methodology. This strategy should (i) identify the APEEE’s message, tools and target groups and (ii) includes either external communication with the school community – mainly parents – and internal communication with the APEEE staff and Board.
- Under the direct supervision and responsibility of the APEEE Director and in close cooperation with the services managers (when and if needed):
- in English and in French, draft and edit newsletters, emails and internal information notes, announcements, social media content, posters, flyers (indicative list);
- coordinate translation of key communications, where needed;
- ensure proofreading and quality of the APEEE communications, publications and other outputs;
- design and implement online forms and survey to collect parents feedback, opinions;
- support the presentation and use of data collected;
- for events managed by the APEEE, manage event registrations;
- support the preparation of the communication on reports.
- Manage databases and distribution lists by service using the appropriate digital tools.
- Ensure a harmonized style throughout each service, under the direct supervision and responsibility of the APEEE Director.
- Ensure the archiving of the documents produced by using appropriate tools.
Website and Digital Platform Management
Under the direct supervision and responsibility of the APEEE Director, which will convey the needs and strategic guidelines of the APEEE Board:
- Maintain, update and improve the APEEE website (press releases, newsletters and other types of publications; graphics and layouts for publications);
- Coordinate content creation with the main internal stakeholders (services, working groups, events’ coordinators);
- Manage the APEEE’s social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LindkedIn, Youtube, etc.);
- Provide basic technical support for website issues or work with external developers when needed;
- Ensure usability, accessibility, and up-to-date information across platforms.
Event & Meeting Support
- Organise the logistics and communication for the Annual General Assembly (information evenings, conferences, preparation of the activity report, preparation of the presentation to be used at the Annual General Assembly).
- Assist in the organization and promotion of APEEE events (e.g. General Assembly, school fair, info sessions, Art Performing day, new parents’ welcome day, …).
- Provide technical and communication support for online or hybrid meetings via Teams or other online tools.
- Create digital materials (e.g. presentations, infographics, agenda meetings, programs of activities, events presentations, posters).
PROFILE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- University degree (bachelor or master level) or equivalent vocational training in communication[1].
- At least 3 years of professional experience in the field.
- Excellent writing and spoken skills both in French and English (C1 CEFR in both languages). Any other EU language would be an asset.
- Proven experience in communication and content management. Proven Ability to write clearly and tailor messages to different audiences.
- Proven experience in website and digital platforms management. Familiarity with content design, user experience, and accessibility principles.
- Knowledge and experience of the necessary techniques (office automation, editing, video, web, etc.), in archiving and documentation techniques, Office 365 suite, Google Workspace, Survey Monkey, Eventbrite, Google Form, etc.
- Knowledge and professional experience in print, editorial, advertising events, crisis communication, digital and internal communication.
- Knowledge and professional experience of web applications, mainly with WordPress, Campaign Monitor and Mailchimp, and CMS Content Management System.
- Knowledge and professional experience in graphics software (Adobe, Canva, …) for page layout and image management in general (photo retouching, page layout, photo library management).
- The following skills would be an asset:
- Previous experiences in a multicultural working environment.
- Knowledge of the European Schools system or experience in a non-profit organization.
- Familiarity with the APEEE structure, organization, services, environment, and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with data protection principles (e.g. GDPR compliance).
- A good command of IT connections and systems.
Soft skills:
- Excellent organisational, planning, analytical, and comprehension skills.
- Proactive and able to work independently and on own initiative as well as in a team.
