Drawing technique and comics/manga

This workshop invites students to explore two complementary disciplines: the technique of drawing and the narrative art of comics and manga. By learning to master their trait, build characters and tell a story in images, participants develop a visual language of their own.

1st trimestre :

Discovery of the fundamentals

  • Drawing technique The first sessions are devoted to the discovery of different techniques: pencil stroke, inking, shadows and lights, perspectives, proportions of the human body. Each notion is put into practice through concrete exercises and thematic illustrations.
Comics & manga At the same time, participants discover the codes of narrative art: placing in boxes, cutting up a scene, characters’ expressions, bubbles and onomatopoeia. Short comics or strips are made to familiarize oneself with the format, without pressure for perfection.

The drawing techniques learned directly feed into comic strips: draw an expressive character, compose a panel, create an atmosphere with shadows. Participants begin to feel how the two disciplines interact.

2nd trimestre :

Development & personal project

  • Drawing Technique—Develop your style Building on the foundations they have acquired, participants choose one or more techniques that suit them and develop a series of personal illustrations. The goal: to build a coherent visual universe, assert one’s aesthetic choices and gain confidence in one’s line of work.
  • Comics & Manga—An ambitious project from A to Z Each participant designs and realizes a more ambitious comic or manga project: creation of a script, character development, narrative cutting, realization of the boards. The project is conducted over several sessions, with collective feedback times to make progress together.

The two worlds come together: personal illustrations can enrich the world of the comic strip project, and vice versa. Each participant finalizes their two creations.
