P1-P2 : Friday, 12h50 – 13h50
The objective of the first semester is for children to discover the art yoga through Mandalas.
During the first semester the focus is on Mandalas, it is a Sanskrit word meaning circle. They colour them, draw their own and also create one big together. Each class includes also simple yoga poses and breathing exercises. Colouring a mandala is an excellent way to end a busy school day and help children unwind; it brings indeed a deep sense of calm and well-being. And children can fully enjoy their creativity, as they don’t have to worry about choosing the right colour but they can use any colour they want.
The pupils also draw their own mandalas. It can help them deal with emotions. Many children express themselves through colour and art, instead of verbalising their feelings. At the end, they are able to bring it home and use it as a tool for meditation or as a way to focus and relax. In order to create an atmosphere of cooperation and joy, children will as well create one big mandala together. A lot of different materials can be used to create mandalas: glass bead, modelling sand, coloured paper etc.
The objective of the second semester is to discover other artistic practises, while finding inner peace, harmony and self-confidence through art yoga.
During this semester children learn to create Origami. It is good for them as it develops eye-hand coordination, sequencing and spatial skills, memory but also patience and attention skills. It allows them to develop fine motor skills and mental concentration. They also play with plasticine and sand modelling to create three dimensional shapes and forms. These fun materials allow children to develop their sense of touch and imagination and to awaken their minds. Some other courses focus on intuitive drawing, the pupils draw for the surprise and joy of the process, without knowing in advance how each drawing will turn out. In other words, they let their hand draw, while their mind rests. As for the first semester, children practise simple yoga poses and breathing exercises.
